TORONTO – Career diplomat Ms. Apoorva Srivastava is appointed as India’s Consul General designate in Toronto.

Ms Srivastava has been a close confidant of late External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and was most recently looking after the charge of Private Secretary to current India’s Union Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. 

She has worked with the Minister of External Affairs from January 2017 to August 2019.

Ms Srivastava joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2001. In her 18 year diplomatic career, she has served twice in the Indian Embassy in Paris, from August 2003 to October 2006 and again from August 2012 to July 2015, and in the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu from June 2009 to August 2012. 

In the headquarters, she has served as Under Secretary (SAARC) and as Director (Administration).

Belonging to a family of diplomats from Uttar Pradesh, Consul General Ms. Srivastava holds a Masters in Psychology from Lucknow University. She speaks Hindi, English and French. 

She is married to Mr. Anshuman Gaur, a career diplomat with 18 years of great service. 

Incidentally, Patna-born Mr Anshuman  Gaur has been assigned as Deputy High Commissioner of India in Ottawa. Mr Gaur was serving as Director (Europe West) in the Ministry of External Affairs. 

Earlier, he served as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Vice President of India from June 2017 to August 2017.

He also writes poetry in English. He was featured writer for 2017 poetry contest conducted by Word Weavers. 

Mr Gaur was recently served as Private Secretary to Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of  Law & Justice, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology.
